BARIATRIC PILOT PROGRAM COMING SOON!
Medical Studies show pre-operative weight loss in bariatric patients has been associated with greater long-term weight loss and shorter operative times. Would you like to participate in the eMindful-sponsored study on a bariatric surgery complementary intervention, which hypothesizes it can maximize your excess weight lost following the bariatric procedure?
Duke University’s Integrative Medicine dept. has developed a program specifically for bariatric patients, and an eMindful-sponsored study will commence shortly and is recruiting for study participants. This 13-week weight management program is a form of complementary medicine in which study participants will be evaluated for measures such as compulsive desires, weight loss/re-gain, and total mood disturbance/improvement. You can earn up to $60 for completing this class and receive the $450-valued program for free.*
Preliminary Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:
- Inclusion: Fluent English speaker/reader
- Inclusion: Able and willing to attend and complete 13 weekly group sessions - via a live, online virtual classroom - over three consecutive months
- Inclusion: Able and willing to complete pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and interviews. Willing to complete 6-month follow-up.
- Inclusion: Must have access to a computer and either DSL or cable-modem internet access (or equivalent)
- *Inclusion: Willing to post $190 upfront for course materials. A $250 check will be sent upon completion of program, questionnaires, and interviews
- Exclusion: Psychiatric or other condition that would preclude appropriate group participation
- Exclusion: Medication that affects weight or appetite
- Exclusion: Hospitalization for condition, other than the bariatric surgery itself, within the past 6 months
The 13-week program is developed by the Mindful Eating Research Team at Duke Integrative Medicine
